Memorial Mass Scholarship Fund

We believe in students and in education! Texas CDA has developed a program that:

The Memorial Scholarship Fund of Texas State Court was established in June 1980, as a memorial to the living and deceased Past State Regents. This scholarship is funded from contributions made by local courts, individual members, or other individuals.

The Memorial Scholarship Fund is a State Project that has a two-fold program. For a minimum of $2.50, an individual or court may have a Mass read for a loved one, living or deceased, by our State Chaplain Reverend Donald Ruppert of East Bernard, Texas, on the first Friday of each month for one year. Each Mass is costing only 21 cents. Where can you get a better bargain for your money?

The monies generated from this project are given out in scholarships to graduating high school seniors. The only requirement for your court to participate in this program is that your court must be making contributions to the fund. Monies collected from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008 will determine the amount and number of scholarships to be awarded. The State Board will award at least (1) $1000.00 scholarship.

With the funds raised through the sale of Memorial Mass Cards, the Catholic Daughters of Texas have helped many students reach their educational goals. In the last five years, over $150,000.00 has been awarded to talented, dedicated graduation seniors.

Contest Requirements

The Regent needs to be familiar with the guidelines and dates to ensure that the chairman carries out her duties. The Regent is asked to bring it to the attention of the chairman that she needs to explain the importance of the guidelines and dates to all the students who apply for a scholarship. It is important for the Regent to tell the chairman that changes have been made, so read over all materials carefully and discard any previous year's information.

The Memorial Scholarship Contest is for all courts that actively participate in the program. The contest is broken into categories. The court contest is for one year from April 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008, using the year to date totals to determine the winners. The courts need to send in the mass enrollment forms monthly along with a court check. The enrollment forms can be copied. Checks for all scholarships are made payable to the institution of the recipient's choice. The scholarship will be awarded at the State Convention in convention years and by April 30 in the alternate years. All applications must be submitted to the State Chairman by January 31, 2008. The institution's name and address must be submitted by July 1, 2008, for the check to be sent in time for fall registration.

REMINDER: Courts must have made a contribution to the Memorial Scholarship Fund from April 1, 2007 to January 25, 2008 to be entitled to have a student apply for a scholarship.
